A Friendly Voice is a free, confidential “warm line” designed to support older adults aged 55 and above residing in Ontario and the Atlantic provinces (Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island). The program offers a welcoming space where seniors can connect with caring individuals without expectations or judgment. Whether someone is experiencing loneliness or simply seeking social interaction to maintain their well-being, A Friendly Voice provides empathetic listening and engaging conversations.

The phone line operates seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and can be reached toll-free at 1 (855) 892-9992. It’s important to note that A Friendly Voice is not a crisis line or referral service but focuses on offering friendly, commitment-free conversations to seniors who wish to chat with someone who cares.

Established in 2018 by Rural Ottawa South Support Services (ROSSS), a non-profit charitable organization, A Friendly Voice addresses the growing issue of loneliness and isolation among seniors. The program is supported by local, provincial, and federal grants, as well as contributions from various partners and supporters. 

Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of A Friendly Voice. They are empathetic, supportive, and available to engage in warm, friendly conversations with callers. Volunteers do not provide advice or counseling; instead, they offer a listening ear and encourage callers to engage with their community.
